By admin at Tue, 2006-05-23 11:54 In the year 1984, Apple Computers came up with the computer mouse which then became widely accepted as the easiest way to move files and point to icons on the computer screen. A computer mouse is normally connected to the computer via a USB port, which is the same port that other peripheral devices use. Older computers and mice used the round PS/2 connector. Therefore, before buying a new mouse, it is a good idea to check what kind of port or connector your computer uses. There are three main types of computer mice that are available everywhere. For the mechanical mouse, it is mandatory that the mouse should be set on a flat surface. The distance and the speed of the roller on the inner side of the mouse decide how far the mouse cursor moves on the screen. A newer type of computer mouse is called the optical mouse. These types of mice need a special mouse pad with a grid pattern on the surface. When the mouse moves over the grid, the sensor inside the mouse determines the movement. While the mouse passes over the grid, it emits a light from an LED or sometimes uses a laser light. Sometimes these kinds of mice pose problems especially when operating in very bright lights. When you buy a new computer, a mouse is normally included. But there are many more varieties of computer mice than only the standard issue. If you want to replace an old mouse with a newer one, here are the three main things to consider when shopping. Color and design: When thinking of buying a mouse for your computer there are many designs and options available. You need not settle for a plain gray colored mouse any more. You can buy mice in several stylish colors. Look around in different shops to see what is available before you buy the plain computer mouse. Now you can even get a mouse that has more than just two buttons. Many are now available with three, four or even five buttons. It may look like a lot of buttons, but every button can be programmed to do common computer tasks. A wheel is also a common feature on the mouse and used widely. The wheel allows the user to scroll through pages without taking the cursor to the scroll bar. This feature is popular among users since it is easy to use and extremely convenient. Software: When buying a new computer mouse, look at what software it comes with. Many computer mice have extra features such as buttons or wheels. These features obviously require special software to make them compatible with your computer. This software will allow you to program the extra buttons to do different tasks. Type of Mouse: When purchasing a new mouse you must consider the various different types of mice available. Most computer mice operate by means of optical mechanisms that use a ball and roller. This takes care of the movement of the mouse. Though this is a typical mouse feature, there are newer mice that have more accurate movement using optics. These types of mice make use of light to control the movement of the mouse and are becoming a popular choice. The optical mouse does not need frequent cleaning like the older versions of the mechanical mice. Mice can also be procured in many varieties like cordless, foot mouse, glide point, j mouse, joystick, touchpad, trackball, track-point, and wheel mouse. The cordless mouse is a good option since it does not require a cumbersome wire or cord to make it operate with the computer. The movement is unrestricted. A foot mouse is an option designed for people who have only limited movement of their arms or hands. A foot mouse allows users to work their computer using only their feet. A touchpad or glide point is the type of mouse found in laptops. This technology operates by using your fingers and dragging it across a flat surface. The cursor moves in the direction of your finger. A j mouse is used for portable computers which use the ājā key on the keyboard. This is quite unpopular because it tends to be difficult. |
